Fall is such an exciting season. The changing leaves, the crisp air moving in, the holiday anticipation and of course, the fashion. All wrapped up in these months ahead. Summer definitely disappeared too fast. I’m not typically one to wish for a longer sunny season, but June, July & August were over in a literal blink of an eye. What happened?! I’m trying to soak up the few days before Labor Day when we unofficially move into the next season. Because as much as I’d like to be one of those people who hang on to summer, I will 100% jump on the fall train as fast as I can. Especially when I see all the fall trends hit the fashion scene.
By far my favorite season to dress for. (Isn’t it everyone’s?) The layers, the textures, the boots, the sweaters. I’m having even more fun now with all the 90s and Y2K revival styles. I get it’s all recycled, but somehow it feels very fresh and exciting at the same time. Maybe because we’re finally getting dressed again. Either way, count me in. Here are the key fall style trends I’m eyeing for 2021.

TRENDS
2021
Shades of green
Saturated hues are hitting the trend forecast hard. Specifically for fall… green. Bright, kelly green! Although I haven’t seen a ton of inventory showing up in retail stores, I think we’ll see it everywhere by the holidays. If you’re not into splashing it across your outfit (honestly, I will sticking to more neutral greens per usual), I love the idea of pulling in the pop of color with accessories. You don’t have to spend much since I do see this as a true trend. This one from Shein is only $17. I’m also loving the idea of pulling green into loungewear. Linking a set from Nordstrom that could easily find a place in my wardrobe.
Oversized Blazers
Let’s agree to never let blazers go out of style, ok? Evolve all you want, but never disappear on me. What did we do without this closet staple? I’m certain all your current blazers are still completely deserving, but if you’re in the market for an upgrade, reach for something more boxy or oversized to stay on trend. Along with all the 90s denim trends, these silhouettes aim to look more relaxed. An instant “cool girl” effect, throwing an oversized blazer over a cardigan works great for an early fall jacket. Pair with a crop top and bike shorts for the ultimate trendy outfit or stick with denim and a graphic tee for an effortless ensemble. H&M remains one of my favorite retailers to snag quality blazers at a great price point. But I found a few on sale at Nasty Gal, too.
Loafers & Clogs
My problem right now is deciding exactly which loafers and clogs to purchase. It doesn’t take much for me to become fully enthralled with a shoe trend. And this saga all began with the Prada loafers I will be lusting after until the day I die. Since I assume we’re riding in similar boats, I linked much more affordable options that are drool-worthy. If you’re going to take one of these trends, I’d say loafers will stick around longer. Clogs are really fun and totally going with that Y2K fashion movement, but I see them disappearing faster. Really trendy loafers have lug soles, but go with what makes the most sense for you. They can be a wardrobe addition that lasts for years.
Rib Knit Sets
The answer is yes – matching sets are still a thing. Thank you 2020. The year of nothing actually gave us something! All kidding aside, matching sets are getting some serious upgrades as of late. No longer just for Netflix binging, these sets will take you to the office, on date night, onto the airplane and why yes, back to your couch. I love the texture of rib knit for fall. And I’m really into this rib knit dress-shirt-thing over long rib knit pants. Somehow chic enough for a holiday party while feeling like pajamas and looking like you’re too cool to care. Dress it all up with some statement gold jewelry and heels. Holiday outfits complete.
Trousers
Pleats, tapered, wide-leg, plaid… it’s all in! Consider switching out your denim with trousers this fall because they’re no longer reserved for the workplace. This may be a little uncomfortable at first, especially since we all just started accepting skinny jean alternatives. But I promise, this is so much fun. Pair them with a relaxed or cropped tee and sneakers for a great street style look. Or a sweater vest and loafers for a more dressed up version. Think concerts, dinners with the girls, running errands. It’s a simple wardrobe switch that elevates any outfit already in your closet. Investing a little more in pants always pays off in fit and longevity, but I’m hearing amazing things about this $35 Lee pair on Amazon. I ordered them for myself & will make sure to share my thoughts soon.
Which fall trends are you most looking forward to?
