It’s been a minute since I’ve fallen for a trend this hard. I’m downright obsessed with collared sweaters. Thinking about it, I decided the trend simply feels fresh. Ironically, all the resurfacing 90s trends feel fresh. Maybe because I remember a lot of them and appreciate the reinvention. Or maybe I just remember drooling over Julia Stiles in 10 Things I Hate About You and everything Friends. I wasn’t old enough to truly participate and now that they’re coming back, I’m ALL IN. Anyway, I digress. This Banana Republic collared cardigan is my new favorite piece. Which only catapulted my obsession over all things collared.
How To Style A Collared Sweater
Honestly, let’s sum it up in one sentence. Keep it simple! These collared sweaters aren’t hard to style because they stand alone so well. Pick your favorite pair of denim or even your current go-to joggers (because nothing has changed in 2021 so far..) and grab a pair of sneaks or easy boots. You’re done. Beyond that though, I’m here to help you digest the different styles of collared sweaters surfacing across the retail space.
Different Collared Sweater Styles
Buttoned up cardigan
Buttoned cardigans are having a moment. They’ve been having a moment since fall & it’s not slowing down for spring. I personally love styling them all buttoned up with no added layers underneath. A preppy, easy look for every day with high-waist denim and boots. Or with flats once the snow melts.
Polo style v-neck
By far the most versatile style of the collared sweater family. The polo-inspired sweaters & tops can literally be worn with anything. Think I’m kidding? I bought a long sleeve polo last spring and have worn it with skirts, sweatpants, layered under sweater vests and with denim shorts. I’m finding the really good ones sell fast as everyone hops on the trend, so don’t hesitate when you find one you love.
Peter Pan collar
Or a ruffle collar or one with pearl detail. They’re feminine, quite spring-worthy and downright fun. Selection for these more unique pieces seems low right now, but I forecast more coming available as the season changes. These are perfect companions to skirts for an ultra-ladylike look. Make it a faux leather midi skirt if you prefer something edgier.
I’m a real downer about the winter-to-spring transition. As you well know, I don’t mind the cold and snow, so seeing it melt and get all muddy and gross makes me angry and sad. Plus, in the Midwest, we don’t really get a spring. It goes from 30 to 90 real quick. Anyway, I’m making an effort this year to be more positive as we get closer to winter ending. Focusing on these fun spring fashion trends will be my saving grace! Do you like the collared sweater trends?
