Even though Emmett turned one back in November, it’s still shocks me how much he’s grown. And simply that we have a 1-year-old! That first year is such an amazing journey. For them and for mom and dad. Although every day presents a new adventure with our little man, we like to think we’ve hit somewhat of a rhythm. On a normal day, things flow pretty smoothly. Shall I knock on wood?
Emmett is a very active toddler, to put it lightly. Silly entertainment, outside time and lots of snacks are daily demands we have come to know well. He seems to run hot like both his parents, so thankfully winter hasn’t slowed him down at all. Our adventures typically end up on Instagram in some way or another. Throughout all of it, we’ve come to know and trust some pretty great products for daily use. Here is my list of must-haves for our active 1-year-old.
For Wearing
Most of my favorite pieces in Emmett’s closet are from H&M. They have the best selection of affordable baby and kids clothes. I’m specifically loving the 2-pack long sleeve tees right now, but their jogger sets and basic sweats are winners as well. E is rapidly growing out of 12 month sizes, so it’s almost time for another haul. Typically, we’ll order a few multi-packs and maybe one or two unique items. By the time he wears them out, it’s onto the next size.
For Playing
Besides his newfound love of the Crate & Barrel Nod Chair (very generous Christmas gift), Emmett mostly plays with his toys from our Lovevery subscription. A little spendy, but honestly, so worth it. He loves everything. We of course sprinkle in some other toys – because, toddler attention span – but we keep it minimal. Currently, he really loves the classic Fisher Price popper push toy and Melissa & Doug Poke-a-Dot books. He’s just starting to show interest in pushing cars around & these pull-backs are so cute. You can score them individually at Target for $5, too.
For Meals
Before Emmett even started solid foods, I obsessed over the easiest way to incorporate a highchair into our already cramped eating area. Our house is tiny. We were recommended the infamous $20 Ikea one over and over, but I still had no storage solution. While browsing Target one day, I saw this booster seat for $40 & took a chance. It has been the best thing. Emmett sits right at the table and has never known anything different. Such a great highchair alternative, especially if you have cramped space. We also love the ez pz tray. It’s handy for measuring portions and truly suctions to the table. As for sippy cups, we’ve had the best luck with simple throw-a-way ones. We wash & reuse!
For Bedtime
We have a pretty strict bedtime routine & Emmett has just started showing real signs of knowing the steps. I know sleeping for kids is a constant roller coaster, but nothing makes me happier than knowing he’s aware, and usually ready (!), for bed when it’s time. We discovered Tubby Todd while dealing with infant eczema. It’s the only thing that soothed Emmett’s inflamed skin and we still use it at bedtime even though he’s no longer having issues. I’d recommend their products to anyone. Besides his nightly lotion, these Amazon pajamas are bestsellers for a reason. We also couldn’t live without our Hatch sound machine or these super affordable blackout blinds. He likes it dark & these do the trick even at Grandma’s!
