Merry Christmas, friends.
I find it hard to believe Christmas 2020 is here, yet last Christmas feels an eternity ago. While watching Happiest Season on Hulu the other night (worth it, btw!), I could have cried at the holiday party scene. Not because of a stellar plot line, but rather to see people gathering. Ordering drinks from a bar. Dressed up. Embracing and being cheerful. Missing those moments is the weight we’re all feeling this season.
My heart aches for the lonely. For the ones who so badly wish they could be with their families. But all we can do is find joy in our situation. Be thankful for our health, warm houses and food on the table.
As most are doing around this time, I’m reflecting on 2020. I really don’t need to reiterate what we all know. It has been a year. Our household has gone through a lot of transitions, ups and downs. But we’re coming out of this year very much happy. Happy to be moving into 2021, but also feeling blessed and grateful for all the positive we’ve been mustering out of the past 365.
You know I’m always searching for the positive because sitting in negativity gives me severe anxiety. So…
Here’s what I’m taking away from 2020. Positively.
- We can do hard things. Yes, I’m quoting one of my favorite reads of 2020. I don’t think anyone escaped from some sort of hardship this year. We can adapt, we can deal with change, we can do it.
- I don’t have time to be anyone but myself. This one stems from the journey of becoming a mom. I’ve learned so much about myself and come so far in determining my own self-worth.
- Pause. Life is a constant juggling act. Slow down, breathe, take it in.
- A Stoic mentality. A conversation for another day, but stumbling upon this daily study has changed everything for me.
- Change is constant. Should I say it again? What a year. Seriously. So many changes, so many challenges, so many curveballs. Goes to show you life is full of surprise – good and bad.
I hope you find joy in the final days of 2020. I hope you can reflect and find some positivity. It’s hard. It has been hard. But we’re almost there.
And as always, thank you, thank you for being here. This space continues to be something I truly treasure. And the above photos show the adventure of taking photos with a toddler.
