Most of us will be attending holiday parties on our couch this year. Our house included. Whether you’re in the same position or have a small (and safe) function to actually venture out for, I get the feeling we’ll all be dressing rather casually. But even so, it’s still fun to add a bit of flare. Personally, I’m a big fan of pulling out closet basics and dressing them up for a casual holiday outfit.
You don’t even need to spend a dime, I promise. None of what I’m wearing is new, with the exception of a gorgeous gold necklace from a new favorite local spot, Nash + Ivy. You can easily recreate a similar look with what you already have. If you are in the mood to pick up a few new pieces, I’ve linked similar options below.
Three Easy Ways To Dress Up Basics
- Swap out the denim. I’m all about a good pair of jeans, but in order to elevate an outfit, they need to go. I pulled out a favorite pair of plaid pants (bonus – these are super comfy & stretch), but you can never go wrong with a nice, basic black pair either.
- Grab your velvet booties. If you don’t have velvet, no worries, a pop of color, print or even texture works perfectly! A great pair of shoes will not only make the overall outfit pop, you’ll feel fantastic, too.
- Add some bling. Duh! It’s the holidays. A great pair of earrings, an extra ring, or a beautiful necklace. It’s the cherry on top.
Pretty simple, right? I’m experiencing a bit of retail fatigue, so utilizing existing closet basics is how I plan to get through the season.
