3 Ways To Style A Sweater Vest

There were a few fall trends I knew I loved right away, but none have truly been more exciting for me than the sweater vest. I can’t even tell you why. Pretty sure it’s pure nostalgia because I remember wearing one for school photos in elementary school and loving it just as much back then. The whole look just speaks to me.

I styled a sweater vest three different ways for you and had a ton of fun doing it. You definitely need one in your closet, and I hope you think so too by the end of this post.

Quintessential fall layering

Throwing on a sweater vest is a simple way to modernize the classic sweater, skinny jeans and riding boot combination. I wanted an added trend element, so I chose a collared long-sleeve underneath. If you’re looking for a new layering piece, choose a lightweight knit polo. I snagged mine this past spring, but with collars becoming increasingly popular this fall, it’s an essential add.

With the season’s “it” boot

Chelsea boots (or lug boots) are officially the season’s “it” boot. Everyone has a pair and if you don’t already, I guarantee you’re tempted to snag some by winter. I ordered an affordable option from Asos thinking I may not be all in on the trend, but I’m now considering a second pair. These things are amazing. I wanted to throw the two trends together and wearing my sweater vest sans an under layer felt right. Especially since this week we’re hitting the 80s again. I’m all for a sleeveless sweater look. It’s fun, comfortable and a bit unexpected. Pair it with plaid pants to make it more fall-esque. Throw on a blazer when the air gets chilly. All-in-all, this is my favorite sweater vest look by far.

Casual and easy

I can hear all you skeptics out there, still thinking ‘I can’t pull off that sweater vest trend’. Yes, you can! If you’re my age, you did it in the 90s. You can absolutely do it again and make it fresh. This look comes together so simply, no doubt you already have most pieces in your closet. Layer a light cotton turtleneck underneath, throw on a great pair of high-rise denim and easy snake print mules or loafers. This simple yet modern outfit is perfect for the office, or those zoom calls. A stroll in the park on a crisp afternoon or meeting up for socially-distanced coffee. I’d literally wear this outfit anywhere.
