I started dreaming up nursery ideas shortly after finding out we were expecting. Even though we had yet to find out gender, it was hard to resist. Boy or girl, I had an immediate vision. I have zero experience in actually “designing” a baby’s room, so I did what I do best & started gathering inspiration and researching “must-have” items. And just like that, our minimal baby boy nursery slowly started coming together.
A black crib, a linen rocker, a modern dresser. All pieces that took me way too long to decide on, but are now the anchors of the room. Truly, there are endless options when it comes to nursery furniture. Matching sets, refurbished antiques, modern options, traditional wood. It can get overwhelming. After combing through multiple Pinterest pages of inspo, I landed on a black crib. First decision done. From there I unearthed a $5 celestial print we bought on our trip to California that we love & needed a place for. Just add a frame. Then, we found a couple more prints at Des Moines’ annual arts festival and the rest kind of fell together from there.
Well… truth be told, hours and hours were spent online finding exactly what I wanted for a dresser & a rocker. But those struggles are long forgotten. Because our minimal baby boy nursery is exactly how we want it. What I love most is that it’s a collection of new and old. Some of the items coming up from our basement storage, books from my own childhood collection & decor from our travels. It’s a little eclectic, a lot simple & functional.
As I put away the last few things last week, I looked around the room & felt something was missing. It’s definitely minimal, but I had envisioned it being maybe a tad more “full”. That’s when I realized it’s simply waiting for our little boy to arrive. Leaving a little space for him means allowing his personality to fill up the rest. There are things he’ll need we don’t know about yet and we want him to be able to grow into the room.
The countdown is on! Our due date is 3 weeks away and it’s quite the mixture of feelings. Not much left to do… the waiting game has begun.

What a sweet little space! I love that it reflects you and your husband, but there’s plenty of room for little man’s personality to grow with the space. I’m so excited for you, and keeping you in my thoughts for the next three weeks that everything goes smoothly. xx
Just sayin’,
