There’s a popular rule in fashion – if you don’t love it in the store, pass. The odds of getting it home and wearing it are slim to none. But… sometimes, just sometimes, the opposite happens. Sometimes I take a chance on something and end up wearing it constantly. And sometimes I absolutely love a piece in the dressing room and it ends up hanging in my closet with the tags attached. I don’t always trust the “rule” and I’m glad I don’t because this square neck shift dress I found at Old Navy proved worth the chance.
I liked this cheetah print number in the dressing room, but I didn’t love it. To be fair, I hardly love anything I put on right now. I’m on the hunt for clothes that have a little extra room (not quite maternity yet) and for items I can wear not only on our upcoming Maine getaway but also to work & on the weekends. This square neck shift dress hit the mark even though I had my doubts. Turns out, once I tried it on at home I absolutely loved it. I think I was most nervous about the length – I’m more comfortable in midi dresses right now. But after styling this mini with sneaks & my favorite shacket, I felt super comfortable. Plus, the dress itself is so lightweight, cut is forgiving & it’s under $30. Perfect for summer.
Moral of the story? You gotta chance it sometimes. Old Navy fitting rooms aren’t always the best – sorry, not sorry. The lighting can be weird and I always feel rushed because of the inevitable long line. Are any dressing rooms really that great? Anyway… I say take the chance. Just keep the receipt.
Do you ever disobey this rule?
