Since Memorial Day Weekend launched the unofficial start of summer, I thought I better get my summer bucket list ready to go. These next 14 weeks (until the first football game kickoff) always go by so, so fast and after one of my best friends helped me put together a summer bucket list a few years back, I’ve been much better about making the most of them. I mean, why not?
Des Moines Arts Festival
This one always makes the list. It’s one of my favorite summer weekends in Des Moines – the arts festival downtown! A nationally-ranked, three-day festival that has artists booths from all over the country. Our house is starting to fill up with items we’ve purchased at this festival and I love being able to have access to such unique pieces.
Attend an outdoor concert
Des Moines does such a good job of providing all kinds of outdoor entertainment all summer long. But sometimes, I’m bad at getting out and enjoying those events. There’s nothing better than listening to live music on a warm summer night. Here’s to making more of these this year!
Take Cooper on a lot of walks
One of my favorite things to do on weeknight evenings in the summer. Cooper loves it, I love it and we both get good exercise. It may seem like an odd “bucket list” item, but as fast as summer flies by, I need to remind myself to take advantage while we can.
Have less screen time
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my recent PSA about my social media frustration. I get stressed out over the amount of time it takes out of my day. I really enjoy the benefits & highlighting things from the blog, plus glimpses of my real life. But there comes a point where I just don’t want to be staring at a screen. So, this summer I’m hoping to concentrate less on the phone and more on what’s happening around me.
Don’t complain (too much) about the heat
I actually have to make quite the effort to not complain about the heat. A couple weeks ago, temps got close to 80 and I could feel myself start to get worked up – you know how much I love the snow and the cold. I need to remind myself the hot weather is temporary and there are benefits to each season of the year. Complaining and negativity are just a waste of time.

I’ve never made a summer bucketlist. Maybe I should start – summer always seems to slip away from me before I know it. Outdoor concerts are my favorite. Happy summer

It really does slip away! That’s why I love making a list. Otherwise I seem to forget until the very end!

I still need to get to work on my summer bucket list, so thanks for the reminder! I love everything that you’re planning to do – daily walks with Finn are my favorite, too and I miss the DSM Art Festival. It’s such a great event!
Just sayin’,
