A few weeks ago, I did one of those question things on my Instagram stories. We were stuck in the airport on our way to Florida and I thought it would take up some of our free time. I got a few questions (thank you!) and answered them on the app. But, it got me thinking. Should I make this a blog post? Not only do I get random questions all the time on social media, but I also get them in person. From friends or anyone who knows I create blog content. It’s a curious industry & I love when people ask. So, I gathered some of the frequent questions I get, coupled them with a few from Instagram and answered them for you below.
Do you blog full time?
No. I work a typical 8 to 5 office job at an advertising agency and love it! It’s a very fun, creative environment which I’ve found actually enhances what I do on Pointed North. I struggled finding a job to be happy at after college (is this a post idea?) and after a long road of lots of lessons learned, I landed where I am. Balancing the blog and a full-time job is no joke – when I’m not “busy”, I am usually filling it with something so I don’t fall behind. I get overwhelmed at times, but, hey… that’s what vacation is for, right?
What is your favorite travel destination?
This is SO tough. I’m not a big vacation repeater… and to compare a lot of the places I’ve been to each other is impossible. Each and every place has it’s own quirks, vibe, sights and sounds. The easiest way for me to answer this is I prefer destinations with mountains. I’m a cold-weather, high altitude lover. I love (moderate) hiking and the view from the top. Colorado, Iceland, Norway, Palm Springs – they’ve all delivered!
What is your favorite holiday & why?
Thanksgiving! I love good food, family time and relaxing. That single day has it all with little expectations.
How do you continuously come up with blog post topics?
Someone recently asked me this & I actually had a hard time answering. Ever since, I’ve put a little more thought into it and decided it would be an interesting question to answer. To start, I typically like to write about three or four main categories – style, recipes, travel or life in general. I plan content monthly (thank you, editorial calendar!) and I like to have a good mix throughout. That gets my mind in the right direction initially. From there, topics spring up from fashion trends I’m seeing, outfits I put together, travels we have planned and just everyday life. I’ve gotten used to thinking “oo, that sounds like a post idea” and diving into ideation from there.
Who takes your pictures?
I have a dear friend who I met through work who takes my photos. She’s fantastic. I personally take my own recipe photos – something I love doing. T also steps in when I need one-off Instagram photos or when I’m in a pinch. And also while we travel. He’s amazing for even being willing to do it. Also, my mom has been known to help. Basically, I have the best support system a girl could ask for.
Does your husband get sick of you buying clothes all the time?
To be fair, not many people ask me this, but it definitely comes up. The easy answer is no. The more complicated answer is… I try to space out my purchases and deliveries so it doesn’t look crazy. We’re mostly on the same page. I have my own budget & I use money I make from this side biz to fund my closet. And quite frankly, he’s the one always encouraging me to treat myself. Once in a while I’ll make a bigger purchase (like this) and he’s (usually) always in my corner.
Are you running out of closet space?
If it wasn’t for my shoes, I’d be in really good shape! I have OCD when it comes to my shoes & I keep them all in their boxes. So… that takes up some unnecessary room in our tiny closets. #ohwell But other than that, I’m really good about clearing out my closet about twice a year. Lots of bags go to Goodwill and I also utilize Poshmark for my higher quality or barely used items. Another small source of income! Because of this, I’m actually not busting at the seams. Something I’m pretty proud of & have gotten better at over the years.
I love receiving and answering reader & follower questions. This post is fun for me – I wouldn’t be on here if I wasn’t comfortable with sharing. I also don’t see the point in not being transparent about what I do. I’d love to continue this a few times a year. Keep those questions coming! Feel free to leave them in the comments below & I’ll keep ’em for next round.
xoxo. B
