The Most Important Wardrobe Staple I Finally Invested In

When I think about wardrobe staples, I think about pieces that are classic and not necessarily purchased often. Chic LBDs, quality denim, and neutral blazers to name a few. I’m pretty good at keeping these items stocked in my wardrobe, but one escaped me. A simple white button-down shirt.

Among the many basics that fill your closet (see examples above), I truly believe the white button-down ranks number one. Not that I was even following my own rule because quite a bit of time has gone by since my last purchase. I’m pretty picky when it comes to white button-down shirts. Imagine that. I don’t like the fabric too stiff or too light or too sheer. I like a straight cut versus fitted. I also prefer a cotton-like fabric over polyester or silk. Oh, and I don’t want to spend a fortune. I’ve ordered & tried on quite a few options over the years – none of which checked all the boxes or made me happy. Until I found the Slim Boyfriend Shirt at Abercrombie.

Abercrombie, really? It surprised me, too. But just like American Eagle, this throwback retailer is making a big comeback. And I’m here for all their affordable, good quality basics. I had high hopes this button-down would check all the boxes, and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s so soft, fits like a dream, it’s light without being too sheer and I can see myself wearing it literally anywhere. Pair it with denim & sandals for a chic and effortless look. Wear loose fitting shorts & add the button-down to make it look more put-together. Use as a swim cover-up on your weekend getaway to the lake. Endless options means I’ll be wearing this thing on repeat.
