Sometimes I become obsessed with a trend and I can’t think of anything else until I find the perfect piece. When I saw this epically 90s trend making it’s way back, for some reason, I instantly gravitated towards it. Actually, that’s maybe incorrect. It all started with the clear raincoat thing I saw happening briefly. Then I realized… I’d never wear that. Slowly, but surely, that morphed into wanting a throwback rain jacket or windbreaker that resembled outfits I donned to outdoor spring recess in elementary school. Circa 1996. Similar to those cargo pants I styled for fall, it’s bringing me back to my childhood.
Anyway… the obsession grew and grew until I found myself scouring my favorite online retailers for the perfect rain jacket. Technically, I ended up with a Members Only windbreaker, not rain jacket. But I think it qualifies as both. My criteria while shopping around kept changing. At first, I wanted a half-zip anorak style. Then I realized I’d prefer the full zip for everyday use. After that, I knew I wanted some sort of color (something different from my constant neutrals). And last but not least, I for sure wanted it lined. Remember those 90s windbreakers and rain jackets with no lining? Terrible – no air in or out, uncomfortable as heck and no fun for anyone. Ok… check, check, check.
I’ll give Amazon some credit here. They have a lot of good options. But I just couldn’t nail it down to a favorite. Finally, after getting extremely specific on my Google shopping search, my eyes landed on this Members Only option at Century21. Not only did it check all the boxes, it’s $100 price tag was marked down to only $30! Boom.
So, what do you guys think?
I couldn’t resist pairing my new 90s-esque jacket with my favorite bike shorts (yes, still obsessed with those, too). I was a little apprehensive to share this look at all considering how it makes me laugh a little. But then I realized… this is actually something I wear to Target on the weekends. Or on evening Jeep rides with T and Coop to get ice cream. Plus, it’s actually functional for those rainy spring days and nights. Summer, too. So there you have it.. my newest 90s trend obsession. No shame.
I’ve linked my exact jacket, plus a few more for you to shop here:
