I really only need a few words to describe Anna Kendrick’s Scrappy Little Nobody. And those words would be: so much fun. Being a pretty big fan of Anna’s, I immediately put her book on my list when I saw it released. Took a few years (you know how long my list always is) but I finally dove in a couple months ago.
What I figured would be a whitty, full-of-character biography was just that. And more. Anna’s quirky personality that shines in any roll she plays, in all interviews she does and really any of her appearances or social media posts is front and center in this book. She does not hold back – somehow managing to tap into the socially awkward side of all of us to make her Hollywood experience relatable. I know… sounds crazy. But it’s true.
Even though I’ve been following Anna since her small role in Twilight, I realized I didn’t know much about her or her road to success. Turns out, she’s been in the game for a very long time. Starting on Broadway in NYC as a young girl, she slowly made her way to the big screen. And even though we all thought she was probably set after landing her role in the hit vampire series, the reality was quite the opposite. Anna talks about a lot of years in between where the future was very uncertain. She’s completely transparent, which makes me love her even more. She’s even more honest about preferring her couch and sweatpants to The Oscars and a ball gown. So yes, I fell in love with her all over again.
Even if you’re not a huge fan of Anna Kendrick, I would still recommend Scrappy Little Nobody. Her stories are raw and relatable but she never lets it get too serious. It’s a story of resilience and chasing your dreams because you believe in nothing but yourself. Truly inspirational and… did I mention fun? It’s oh-so-fun.
