The Trend I Was Most Skeptical About

To be honest, the minute I ordered this burgundy satin skirt, I was immediately skeptical. I’ve been seeing satin skirts all over Instagram, fashion weeks and Pinterest street style pages, but how on earth could one be flattering? The idea of wearing a fabric so delicate that shows absolutely everything (wrinkles included) terrifies me. Plus there’s no stretch and the static to worry about. I love clothes and styling, but I tend to stay on the comfortable and functional side of things. However, once I saw some LA it-girls style their satin skirts with sweatshirts and sneakers, I bit the bullet because man… they looked really cool. And I needed to try it.

Turns out, the unlikely pair is pretty darn fun to wear & I absolutely love it. Isn’t that funny? Trying something new can actually work out. I mean, we all remember my experiment with bike shorts, right? And that’s still a good trend in my book. When it came to this outfit, though, I knew I needed to plan a little more. I intentionally ordered this cropped hoodie for the sole purpose of pairing with the skirt I was so afraid of. Most of my sweatshirts are baggy and comfy. Not that this one isn’t, but I knew I’d need something cropped or fitted to pull the look off. When I noticed the draw string waist, I went for it. Better yet… the entire outfit cost $45. Thank you, Nasty Gal sale!

The outfit definitely tends to be more “street style” and I understand it may be hard to find places to wear it. But here’s what I’m thinking. The satin skirt and hoodie combo would be a fun late spring/early summer outdoor date night look. Think beers on the rooftop or mini golfing. It would also work for any March Madness shenanigans you may be attending. I would also wear it to farmer’s markets in early summer or even out and about for girls night. Satin is considered dressy while hoodies are considered casual. And I’m all about that balance.

What do you think… am I crazy?

Also, sneakers are pretty mandatory at this point. Make sure to get yourself a pair. I’ve got my favorite Nike’s linked below, plus the satin skirt & cozy hoodie that each fall under $30.
