For The Love Of Saddle Shoes

Sometimes you seek out a specific pair of shoes, and sometimes the shoes simply find you. The latter is how these white and brown saddle shoes ended up in my closet. Since I work full time, I always have my eye out for office-friendly footwear. I don’t mind wearing heels to work every once in a while, but most days you’ll find me in some sort of flats. Why saddle shoes though? I needed a new pair of basic shoes, and while these are far from ordinary, I couldn’t help but love the idea of pairing them with some of my spring work outfits.

A little history…

…even if you don’t want it. My mom absolutely loves saddle shoes. She has frequently reminisced about wearing them while cheering in high school & I vaguely remember her dressing me in a pair when I was really little. Turns out, saddle shoes were a cheer uniform staple in the 50s and 70s. A perfect match for their embroidered sweaters, wool skirts and bobby socks – a look that could have a serious comeback, don’t you think?

I followed in my mom’s footsteps by cheering in high school, so I decided it’s fitting to have my own pair of saddle shoes. I may not be under the Friday night lights anymore, but I’ll still have a ton of fun wearing them. (Notable – this is not a photo of my mom – I do need to dig one up though.) And although my new shoes are comfortable (read more about that below), it’s hard to imagine cheering in these things. I think our matching white sneakers were a good upgrade.

This particular pair of saddle shoes are from Eastland. Not only are they adorable and fun, they are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had on my feet. No joke! The sole is lined with Eastland’s Exclusive Active Memory Foam and while it forms to your foot, it’s like walking on a cloud. Plus, the high quality leather will last, making these a great investment. They look sharp, they feel great & I can’t wait to wear them all spring.

Do you like the idea of saddle shoes for spring?

I think I already told you this when you first shared these on Instagram, but I’m totally obsessed! These are the perfect update to every spring outfit, and a bonus that they’re comfortable.
