I’m guessing if you are headed out of town for spring break, most probably have their plans already in place. Most are probably beach bound. However, one of my friends and I are considering ditching town for a long weekend in March and it got me thinking – what are some good non-beach destinations? And if you can take off with minimal fuss, even better. Here are the non-beach destinations I would choose in a heartbeat.
Arizona
Not beach bound, but still want some warmth and sunshine? Arizona sounds so fun. I’ve only ever flown in and out of Pheonix, but I’m dying to explore more. Hiking around the Sedona/Flagstaff area specifically sounds amazing. Or traveling further north and seeing the famous Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend first hand. Two places I’m sure that no matter how many pictures you see, it doesn’t even compare to the sight in person. And doesn’t simply hitting the trails, exercising and soaking up the desert sun sound great?
Colorado
I’m sure none of you are surprised I would choose a snowy destination to escape to. Hitting the slopes sounds like the perfect spring break! With the winter we’ve been having, I think those slopes will be covered in snow until late April. We visited Winter Park last year and absolutely loved it. The mountain is huge and there are so many unique runs. Plus the town is small and truly gives you that “mountain escape” vibe. But, I also highly recommend Copper Mountain. Situated right off I-70, it’s easy to get to and the village sits cozily next to the lifts. Easy to navigate and even good for a day trip from Denver.
Washington DC
Our nation’s capitol may not sound like the ideal spring break destination, but if you’re open-minded, I highly recommend it. It’s been a long time since I visited, but I still remember seeing the war memorials for the first time. They are simply breathtaking. And I’m sure emotional for some. I think it’s a very important place to visit – regardless of your feelings towards our government right now. There’s so much to learn, and so many respects to pay. A truly humbling experience. Plus, there are some great destinations just down the road – Alexandria, VA and Mount Vernon to name a couple. Also, if you take a later spring break in April, you’ll experience those amazing cherry blossoms.
Banff, Alberta, Canada
It probably wouldn’t take much convincing to get anyone to go to Banff. I mean, it’s only been the most coveted spot on Pinterest for a few years now. The photos people post are epic. And this is definitely a bucket list destination for me. Turns out – you can get pretty cheap flights. Or at least you could back in January when we checked. I would love to venture into Banff, see and enjoy Lake Louise. Then do a scenic drive all the way to Vancouver. We fell in love with Canada when we spent a long weekend in Toronto. Quite frankly, I’m dying to go back.
Are you headed anywhere for spring break?
