While I’m hanging onto winter for dear life (even though Iowa is still covered in snow), we’re slowly entering that time of year where spring takes over everyone’s mind. And closet. While most are getting anxious for sunshine and melting snow, I’m hoping for a few more snow days. Furthermore, while I watch spring fashion take over retail stores and Instagram feeds, I’m being stubborn about putting away my winter layers. Spring may be something you look forward to, but to me, it’s a season I’d rather skip right over and into summer.
Why am I being so pessimistic? As I write this, I can literally feel the inspiration depleting from my mental bank. Late February, March and April are the worst months for me when it comes to staying motivated. Isn’t that weird? I hate when the snow melts and leaves behind a muddy mess. It’s usually still freezing out in Iowa, but sweaters are supposed to be replaced with lighter pieces. We lose an hour of sleep during daylight savings time. I don’t look good in frilly tops and pastels. The list goes on. It’s just not my time of year. So bear with me.
I realize a lot of you feel the exact opposite of me. Your version of winter blues most likley consists of feeling down because winter isn’t ending. And that’s ok – more power to ya. But I think we all may have one thing in common. This is the time of year where we need a little pep in our wardrobe. Again, it’s not quite spring, but we get sick of wearing the same sweaters every day. It’s not a good time to shop – the retailers have good sales but low inventory and no one knows whether to buy more layers or wait it out.
My solution? Use what you have & mix it up!
For example, this H&M cardigan I purchased back in the fall has been a staple item for me all season long. I love the camel color, the longer length and it’s so soft and warm. However, layering it with the same graphic tees has become a little tired since I’ve been repeating outfits for what feels like months now. To “mix it up”, I opted for my fav (and most colorful) striped tee from Madewell. I typically struggle with adding a lot of color to my outfits, but I can get on board with this muted palette.
Another great option is to add a printed neck scarf to a neutral crew neck sweater. Instantly elevates the outfit and you can wear the scarves in your hair as well. I’m also currently on the hunt for a couple statement hair barrettes. Have you seen this trend circulating? I’m obsessed.
Little things like switching up outfits, adding colorful stripes or accessories, getting some exercise or going on a fun date night can help ease those winter blues. No matter the type of blues you suffer from.
Are you a winter lover like me or are you anxious for spring?
xoxo. B

I’m with you on spring fashions – while you already know that I suffer hard from winter blues, I wish we could skip right to summer! Spring is such a weird time for clothes, and I don’t like a lot of the color palettes either. I love your idea of adding a scarf or fun accessory to your hair!

It is SUCH a weird time! I’ve been browsing lately and can’t even find anything I really love. I’m definitely looking for more accessories to switch things up!
