I highly doubt essentials oils are anything new to many of you. I mean, it’s definitely a possibility that you’ve never heard of them, but I’d put money on it that you have. They’ve been increasing in popularity for a few years, probably longer, and I’m a little behind. But even if you’ve heard of essential oils, how much do you actually know about them?
That’s the exact place I’m coming from. I knew about essential oils, I had heard people talk about them frequently, but I never really understood or had any solid knowledge about how they worked, what their benefits were, etc. Am I alone? Doubtful. Which is why, after a close friend began educating me, I decided an educational post could be fun. Not only to share my journey to utilizing oils, but to get some insight from a Young Living rep who lives and breathes (literally), these essential oils every day.
To speak about my journey to using and understanding essential oils, I would say it’s still in progress. The very first oil I brought into our home was lavender. T has a hard time falling asleep frequently, and the scent of lavender seems to calm us both down as we drift off. So once I realized I could wash and dry our sheets with the natural oil, I was sold. The second oil I’ve begun using religiously is eucalyptus. Especially now during cold and flu season, diffusing eucalyptus or applying it topically (being careful with this) seems to boost my immune system & keep the ick away naturally.
Other than those two, I’m still working on incorporating & learning more. And I learn more by asking my dear friend, Abbie (the Young Living rep!), more questions on how and when to use essential oils. She’s become a down-right expert and I trust anything she recommends. To make this post easier, I asked her a few questions to get her input directly. So you could all benefit from her knowledge, just like I do.
What do you love most about essential oils?
The aroma and the benefits I’ve experienced while diffusing. I have connected my affirmations to certain aromas that have helped me through tough days and also my best days. I also love that Young Living is 100% pure oil – from seed to seal. Completely non-toxic.
Which oils do you use on a daily basis?
The first two oils that made me a believer were lavender and citrus fresh. They actually work together as a duo for me. I put lavender on my left wrist and citrus on my right wrist which gives me perfect balance for my nerves. Once I used these two consistently, I saw a positive change in my day-to-day.
Since then, I’ve expanded my daily usage to peppermint, thieves, lavender, citrus fresh, lemon and raven. Peppermint has become an all-time favorite. It can be used for almost anything and I love incorporating it into my daily routine.
How do you incorporate these essential oils into your daily life?
I seem to live, breathe, walk & talk oils anymore. If I need to relax or chill out, I grab lavender. If I feel any ick coming on, I grab thieves, peppermint and raven. Sometimes I need a boost in energy and I grab peppermint, citrus fresh and lemon.
Specifically, I dab lavender and citrus fresh on my wrists for when I can’t get my nerves together. Peppermint is rubbed on my chest before I walk out my door everyday and anytime I need a refresher. Thieves is the perfect cleaner for everything – and I mean, EVERYTHING. Fruit, dishes, my counter tops, you name it. But I mostly wash my fruit & veggies with lemon vitality because I prefer the taste. When I do an in-home circuit workout, I diffuse peppermint for energy and rub panaway on sore muscles – it gives an icy-hot feel. I also started using Young Living’s Savvy make up line & lavender lip balm.
It sounds like oils can be used in a variety of ways, can you explain that more?
Yes, I’m a big fan of diffusing oils, and that’s probably the most popular way to use them. However, I also like to use them topically on trigger spots such as wrists, temples, my stomach or back of my neck. Being consistent with your oils is the determining factor of whether they end up being life changing for you or not – just like with anything in life. Here are the specific ways you can utilize most oils:
Topically: on your skin, in the right places
Aromatically: in a diffuser
Internally: mixed in a capsule or with water
B here, for a quick interruption… Abbie has also incorporated essential oils in her homemade body butter. And it’s amazing. She gifted me a jar for Christmas & it’s almost gone because I’m obsessed! All I know is she used lavender and copaiba oil. If you’re interested in learning more about how she makes this, follow her on Insta for more behind-the-scenes info!
Can you explain Thieves & why it’s such a good cleaner?
Ditch & switch! Thieves household cleaner is a safe, plant based all-purpose cleaner for those looking for something natural but effective. It’s chemical free & cleans everything so well. You’ll mix ½ oz with a spray bottle of water and clean all the things! It has a fresh scent & can be used on any surface of the home – counters, mirrors, floors and even upholstery.
If you’re interested in Thieves as a cleaner, it’s much more affordable than you think. Retail price for 64 ounces of cleaner is $116 but that will make 128 spray bottles of cleaner. So you’re actually paying 90 cents per bottle for cleaning solution. A much healthier option & in the end, much cheaper!
