My newest favorite winter layer is appropriately called the Patagonia Better Sweater, because well… it is better and it’s technically a sweater. And a fleece. All wrapped up in one. What’s better than that? I love sharing cold weather outfits like this – last year, I shared my favorite Burton jacket. Reasons being, one, this is my outfit of choice most winter days and two, I believe it’s extremely important to invest in quality items to navigate winter weather.
First off, you’re sure to recognize this green Patagonia winter coat I wear constantly. It’s so unbelievably warm, but also lightweight, making it perfect for extremely cold days while not adding bulk. Since I’ve lived in Iowa my whole life, I’m no stranger to layering up as the temperatures regularly hit below freezing but this coat has made staying warm so much easier.
The Best Part
I personally think the best part about buying from brands such as Patagonia and Burton (my personal favs) is you’ll get the best performance while still looking great. They design collections so thoughtfully and give the needed attention to both fashion and function. I’ve been sporting Burton on the slopes since day one, but Patagonia is a new favorite brand for me. I bought the heavyweight zip-up fleece for our Iceland trip and instantly fell in love with it. Then, my mom gifted me this lightweight button-up one for Christmas this year. And yes, I love this one equally. They’re both brush fleece lined with a knit front, making them look sleek and nice while keeping you warm and toasty.
Where do I wear these amazing better sweaters?
The question should be, where don’t I. Ok… that was cheesy. But, seriously. Again, the design is so genius that I would feel comfortable wearing them snowboarding, hiking, running errands and even on a casual date night. They look great with jeans and boots and they’re equally perfect with leggings or under layers for more activity. You just can’t go wrong!
Do you have a favorite performance brand for winter weather?

I don’t personally own anything from Patagonia, but I LOVE the design of their clothes. They look so comfortable and warm but still stylish enough to wear everyday. This is such a cute look on you – we Midwest girls definitely need to know how to stay warm this time of year!

You need one of these for sure! It is the best item in my closet at the moment. Especially since it’s 14 degrees today! Such a good layering piece 🙂
