When you live just twenty minutes down the road from your alma mater, it proves difficult to stay away. It’s no secret that T and I invest a lot of time, energy and money into supporting our beloved university, specifically during football season. We’re avid tailgaters, devoted Cyclones. The cliche couple who met in college and will one day bribe their children to follow in their footsteps. Ok… I’ll try to avoid that last part. Regardless, the point here is, our fall involves a lot of game days. A lot of early mornings headed north on the interstate with coolers packed & team colors donned. And after you’ve gone well over five seasons of dressing up in team gear, game day outfits get a little monotonous. The options start to look the same and frankly, I was tired of wearing the same ol’ graphic tee/sweatshirt combo every weekend.
So, how can you plan game day outfits that don’t scream “game day”? Instead of over-spending on even more ISU Nike gear or graphic tshirts, I’ve tried investing in basic items in the school colors. Like the cozy Topshop crew neck (under $40!) I’m wearing below. It comes in a variety of colors and is so perfectly simple, I’ll be wearing it long after game days end. To add a little team spirt, I’ll put on an embroidered mascot hat and white sneakers. Paired with good denim – another Old Navy pair – you really can’t go wrong. It’s still a classic game day outfit without going overboard. And when you frequent the stadium as much as us, it’s the best way to do it.
Isn’t football season kind of the best? We’re actually headed to our first game this Saturday and can’t wait to load up the bus and cheer on the team. Win or lose, it will be one of those perfect fall days. I’m just sure of it.
What’s your go-to game day outfit?
xoxo. B
