I asked, you guys answered… and I listened. My recent (and rapidly growing) obsession with podcasts inspired this post. A post to share my collection of favorite shows. I’ve probably been religiously listening to podcasts for about a year – exploring all kinds of topics. Some motivational, some career-focused, some gossip-focused and of course, crime-focused. I can’t say I have a favorite genre. It really depends on the day. But, I do have a lot of shows I repeatedly listen to. So, I polled all you followers on Instagram stories on if you wanted a list of my favorite podcasts and you unanimously said… yes! I’ve got, in my opinion, the best podcasts to listen to rounded up below, categorized into why I love them and sharing some favorite episodes.
For Addictive Stories
This American Life/Serial/S-Town
To be honest, I didn’t start listening to This American Life until I became quickly addicted to Serial. I realize I’m a little behind on this trio trend(they’re produced by the same people), but it doesn’t make them any less amazing. Serial shares long stories told week by week and S-Town follows a man in small-town Alabama through a twisted story that starts one way and ends a completely different way. This American Life is a weekly series that explores different topics on each episode. I’m not doing these any justice — just take my word. They are amazing and will keep you captivated from the start.
Favorite Episodes: The Feather Heist, Season 2 (Serial), The Magic Show
For Discovering Inspirational Women
Girlboss Radio/Oh Boy
I’m sure there are few podcast-listening women who haven’t heard of Girlboss Radio. The famous Sofia Amoruso from Nasty Gal interviews amazing women from all facets of life about their journey to success. I am such a fan of hearing people’s stories and with these chats, the inspiration is truly endless. Whether Joanna Coles from Cosmo talks about being a working mom or Brit Morin from Brit + Co discusses exploring a new hobby, there’s something to take away from each one of these amazing, strong, talented women.
I also wanted to shout out to the Oh Boy podcast. Similar to Girlboss Radio, but with a male host. The conversations have a unique spin and if you’re open to longer, more in-depth discussions, I would highly recommend checking it out.
Favorite Episodes, Girlboss: Joanna Coles, Rebecca Jarvis, Jen Atkin, Amber Venz Box, Brit Morin
Favorite Episodes, Oh Boy: Julie Wainright, Alexa Chung, Emily Weiss, Leandra Medine
For Pure Entertainment
Armchair Expert
Two words: Dax Shepard. Have you subscribed yet? No? You need to. In order to describe this podcast, I would tell you to imagine being invited over to Dax Shepard & Kristin Bell’s house (their married, remember?) for dinner amongst their close-knit Hollywood group of friends. During that evening, they talk very candidly and about how normal they are and the ins and outs of their days as human beings… not celebrities. You get an extremely unique view into a world we typically visualize as being untouchable and perfect. Guess what… it’s not! Honestly, Dax is quite the interviewer and isn’t afraid of any topic. Some episodes even last over two hours but you’d never know it. I laugh all the time and absolutely love having an inside look at their lives.
Favorite Episodes: Mila Kunis, Anna Faris, Jason Bateman, Dax’s Mom
For Something Out-of-the-Norm
The Joe Rogan Experience
Ok, hear me out. T actually suggested listening to this on a drive up north last year. I’ll admit to being a tad close-minded since I could care less about Joe Rogan and his career in the UFC. Is that even what he did? Anyway… to say this podcast caught me off-guard is an understatement. Turns out, Joe Rogan is a very open-minded individual who loves to discuss life and theories of any kind. It can get a big crass at times, but it really is entertaining. I don’t recall specific favorite episodes, but he has people from all over being interviewed, so take your pick!
For Blog Advice
The Influencer Podcast
If you’re a podcast listener, I hope you are taking advantage of shows focused on your career, hobby or interests. There are so many helpful people out there sharing ideas, tips, tricks, success stories – anything you can imagine. The Influencer Podcast is my preferred “blog advice” show at the moment. Julie is so engaging, so helpful and knows the ins and outs of the influencer industry. Plus, she varies her episodes between quick and short snippets of inspiration and hosting fun guests. Check it out!
