What to Wear to a Bridal Shower

Our weekend was full of fun festivities.  T and I both turn 30 this year – him first on August 11th – so we threw a big birthday bash celebrating his milestone.  Then, the next morning I woke up to attend his sister’s bridal shower.  Family and friends were in town and to say it was a great weekend is an understatement.  We spent the good part of Sunday afternoon on the couch with Marvel movies on TV (why are they so addicting??) and Cooper cuddles.  It was a pretty fantastic way to end a busy, busy weekend.  So… onto another week we go!

Knowing well in advance that this weekend would be a busy one, I knew I needed to be prepared.  I’d go from a late night out on Saturday to an early morning setting up the bridal shower.  All my necessities needed to be ready to grab and go.  Including my outfit.  Which, when I started thinking about, didn’t take much effort at all.  Maybe because I stocked up on some great dresses this season, but I’ve also had my fair share of practice when it comes to showers – wedding or baby – including my own.  I decided it’d be fun to share my insight on what to wear to a bridal shower.  Women fret over their outfits all the time, but when it comes to events like this, I feel like the stress level can be higher than normal.  And it definitely shouldn’t be!

Instead of rambling on about wearing a floral dress or not wearing a dress at all, I’ve listed my top three rules to stick to when trying to decide what to wear to a bridal shower below.

What to Wear to a Bridal Shower

Rule #1.  Definitely dress up.  Unless the bride or her “tribe” note otherwise, it’s always a good idea to assume the crowd will dress nice.  I typically opt for a dress or printed romper.  If it’s a morning shower, flats or sandals with a dress are perfect and wedges with a romper elevate the look.

Rule #2.  Avoid wearing white.  If the bride is traditional, she’ll most likely be donning a white dress, or something close.  It’s her day, so let her stand out and avoid the color all together.

Rule #3. Don’t overthink it.  I would be surprised if there wasn’t a perfectly good option already your closet.  I’ve made the mistake before of buying new dresses for such events and only wearing it once.  Whether it’s your favorite sun dress or a cute skirt you haven’t worn in a while, choosing something from current inventory always works.

Do you stick to any rules when dressing for a shower?
