I almost always have a stack of books on the shelf, lined up waiting to be read. And although I still have a few to tackle, my pile has been dwindling for the first time in years. I’ve been on a non-fiction binge, reading a couple biographies and most recently, Kirstie Clements’ memoir about her time at Vogue. I truly enjoy reading people’s stories and have a fascinating Da Vinci biography waiting to be opened. But it’s time to switch things up and conquer some novels on my summer reading list. Which required an overdue Barnes & Noble trip on Saturday night – my not-so-secret happy place.
Last week I finished Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children in record time. Actually, the fastest I’ve read anything since Harry Potter. I’m completely fascinated by the story and cannot rave about the book enough. I didn’t know much about the peculiar novel before I began reading, but I was instantly hooked. And when I found out Ransom Riggs actually wrote a trilogy, I almost ran out the door immediately to grab the next two books. These are first on my summer reading list, and I urge you to give these books a try.
So, with the Peregrine trilogy, that’s a start, but keep reading for the rest of my list.

Into the Water
Because of how much I loved Girl on a Train, I added the new(ish) Hawkins novel to my list immediately. I think it’s safe to assume Into the Water will deliver exactly what I’m craving for summer – addictive, surprising and thrilling – from what I’ve heard anyway.
The Almost Nearly Perfect People
I actually bought this book in the Bergen airport on our way back home from Norway. Being completed fascinated by Scandinavian culture, I knew I needed to read this. Booth explores the assumptions the world has about a so-called Scandinavian utopia, where everyone is supposedly happy and rich. I’m excited to learn more about the region – and back to non-fiction I go.
If I get these read, here are even more on my summer reading list:
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
City on Fire by Garth Risk Hallberg
The Swans of Fifth Avenue – Melanie Benjamin
Do you have any books on your list? I love recommendations!

I think Into the Water was hit or miss for a lot of people, but I loved it! It’s suspensful and keeps you guessing pretty much ‘til the end – enjoy!

Interesting! Glad to hear you loved it. Girl on a Train was so good, so I figured she delivered the same mystery here! I’ll let you know how I like it 🙂
