No matter how many new trends surface for the spring season, I think it’s safe to say we’ll always see floral patterns in one way or another. Which isn’t a bad thing, don’t get me wrong. After a long winter, flowers and bright colors are refreshing, but with the exception of my newfound love for bold red, I am one who strays away from a lot of color and busy patterns. Trust me, it’s not because I don’t like them – they simply don’t work on me. Or at least I don’t think they do. However, since purging my closet this past year, I’ve worked on strategically expanding into a wider selection of items for my closet. So, as I challenged myself to embrace floral and more feminine pieces for spring – something I typically stray away from – I landed on a black floral dress. Figures. Still neutral… but in my defense, it still adds color and a pop to my overall collection.
And I’m here to tell you…
…that wearing dark colors for spring is more than OK. More specifically, a black floral dress is a wardrobe necessity. As I scrolled through hundreds of floral dress options on Asos (my favorite online spot for dresses), my “recently viewed” list quickly, and unintentionally, showed my true taste. All dark colors and neutral palettes with midi hemlines. So I ordered this long sleeve black floral dress and a yellow polka dot option to throw me off a bit. The latter didn’t pan out, so I decided to style dark floral for spring.
We have a couple weddings in May and although the sun shines, in true Midwest fashion, we still can’t bank on the warmest weather. The sheer long sleeves of this dress may be perfect for the not-so-warm-yet weather and the ruffle details lighten up the silhouette. Also, I donned my favorite pair of white boots for a fresh look and added a straw bag. Straw bags are everywhere at the moment, and when I found this affordable one before checking out on Asos, I knew it was meant to be. Long story, short… it’s absolutely fine to wear dark floral during spring. Why? Because grabbing pastels and bright colors at the first sign of sunshine isn’t mandatory. Especially if you’re like me and prefer a more neutral palette. Just make sure to mix it with lighter accessories for a fresher look.
