Another St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone & I assume most don’t start a countdown for next year. Except for my little hometown of Emmetsburg, Iowa. Irish settled back in the day, a large group of families in the town reign from The Emerald Isle. Including part of my mom’s family. So, as you can imagine, all us Emmetsburg-ians get pretty excited for March 17th. After the trek up north on Friday night, we spent Saturday doing all the traditional things – running the O’Round the Loch Run, attending the parade, catching up with old friends & drinking green beer. Or at least beer in green cans. Same-same, right?
It may not be the most extravagant town, definitely not the biggest, but being there during the St. Patrick’s Day celebration always makes it feel oh-so-special. Maybe it’s the fact that I get to see my family and a bunch of great friends all in one great day. Maybe it’s that big Ireland flag they fly right in the center of town. Either way, a weekend like that always reminds me of the importance of quality time with people you love. Even more important, unplugged quality time. I ended up posting on Saturday, but I really did concentrate on staying in the moment. With so many people I care about in one spot, I didn’t want to waste any time staring at a screen.
Weekends spent in joyous celebration sometimes lead to not-so-fun Sundays, which is exactly what I got. The older we get, the harder it is to shake an all-day binger. Feeling better today, thankfully, but now the countdown is on. 362 days…
How did you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?
xoxo. a
