I’m going to be completely honest with you, spring fashion is not always my forte. Unlike my endless supply of excitement for fall and winter, I tend to dip into an outfit inspiration rut this time of year while waiting for the Midwest weather to make decisions. So, my solution? Find a basic twist hem top from Banana Republic to spark the engine.
Well, not so simple, I suppose. When I’m in my style rut, online shopping doesn’t help at all, so I force myself into the mall and hit my go-to stores, including Old Navy (hence the denim) and Banana Republic, among others. Even though sorting through the racks feels like pulling teeth at times, finding even the most basic of things can help rouse some creativity and inspiration.
And of all the amazingly gorgeous items BR had on their shelves, I walked away with this twist hem top for simplicity reasons. The black top is high quality, on trend with the twist hem and a basic I can wear all year – with jeans, shorts, skirts, under sweaters and as a layering piece. As for the denim, I had been eyeing this frayed hem Old Navy pair for a few months – my first time buying Old Navy denim and I have to say, I’m impressed. Super comfortable, great fit and the price can’t be beat.
When styling basics and especially black pieces, I like to have fun with accessories. Stacking the renegade cluster bracelet with the bridge bracelet from Stella & Dot has been almost a daily thing for me lately and the trevally earrings are simple and chic. And would a spring outfit really be complete without a hat? I find the best hats at Target (at the right price, too!) and that’s where I stumbled across these trending bow slides I just couldn’t pass up.

I love this look! That top is so perfect. Plus I love your S&D accessories with it. I think you have just inspired me to finally get the wrist cuff!
Thanks so much! I have a feeling I’ll be wearing this tank all summer! And yes, that cuff is necessary! Do you shop S&D often? I’m obsessed with their stuff and the bridge cuff is so fun.
I am with you on the online shopping not helping ruts, sometimes it sucks to go in the malls (ick haha) but it does help!
