denim + black.

If there’s one item in my closet I can’t live without, it’s my pair of Banana Republic black pants.  And a good chambray shirt.  Ok, that’s two things.  But one outfit, so it counts right?

Every spring, I struggle with fashion inspiration.  The Midwest offers up bipolar weather, brown grass and bare trees, just waiting for the sunshine to come out for good.  So, before I get excited and geared up for floral dresses and nude wedges, I go through a few weeks of simple, transitional looks.

I first bought a pair of Banana Republic black pants during one of their many 40% off sales and instantly fell in love with the Sloan fit.  Ankle length and fitted through the hips and thighs, the stretchy material makes them comfortable and they can be easily dressed up or dressed down.  I wear them so much, I have two identical pairs to rotate.  Don’t judge.  If you’re looking for a basic pant to wear throughout the year, these are it.

And the chambray shirt?  Another oldie but goodie I’ve had for years.  A neutral basic I would definitely recommend investing in – good quality so it lasts.  Great for layering, pairing with accessories or simply wearing alone.  I love the mix of a casual denim top with a sleek pant.  It elevates the look and makes it appropriate for many occasions.
