It was one of those weekends set aside for catching up on the to-do list, and maybe a little sleep along with it. I love productive weekends because they lead to a relaxing Sunday night and a calm start to a new week. But what made it even better was the weather! Iowa got a sneak peek at fall with the cool temps allowing that familiar crisp air thru open windows and making sweatshirts optional. And so I began dreaming about fall activities – football, tailgates, bonfires and harvest. Ahh, I am ready for it.
Not only am I dreaming about the activities, I am also dreaming about the food. S’mores over the fire, breakfast burritos at early morning tailgates and homemade chili on the farm. I get hungry just thinking about it!
When inspiration in the kitchen hit this weekend, I knew a snack to help celebrate the transition into fall would be perfect. Being a chocoholic, the criteria was simple – lots of chocolate, simple to make and easy to transport.
Choco Preztel Mix – check, check check!
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 package dark chocolate chips
1 package milk chocolate chips
1 bag pretzels
1 package mini marshmallows
Break up the pretzels and mix mallows in…
Melt the chocolate, mix together…
Refrigerate until chocolate sets, break up and serve!
Choco Preztel Mix
1 package dark chocolate chips
1 package milk chocolate chips
1 bag pretzels (I used sticks, but any kind will work)
1 package mini marshmallows
- Crumble pretzels into large bowl – add marshmallows and mix
- Melt chocolate chips together in double boiler (microwave would work as well)
- Pour melted chocolate over pretzel and marshmallow mix
- Gently stir until well coated
- Pour into 9 x 13-inch pan and refrigerate until chocolate is set
- Break up mixture and serve!
This easy snack is going to show up everywhere this fall – at our tailgates, around the fire and in the house for an after dinner chocolate fix. It’s a lot of chocolate, but the salty pretzels and sugary mallows make the snack even more delightful. Mmm, mmm.
Enjoy!

Do you think this might work with graham crackers instead of pretzels – like S’mores? Maybe a little less chocolate?

I think this mix would be great with graham crackers! It would definitely be a good s’more alternative. I also have a recipe for indoor s’mores here – https://agneswright.com/2016/06/29/indoor-smores/ – very similar 🙂
