cravings.

My creativity in the kitchen has suffered the past few weeks with busy after-work schedules, trying to eat healthy, and the list goes on.  When I need a boost of inspiration, I always get out my stack of cooking books.  And call me crazy, but I love reading them.  Especially ones written like Cravings by Chrissy Teigen.

If you haven’t heard, Chrissy Teigen, supermodel extraordinaire, wrote a cookbook.  Why? Well, it’s simple really.  She loves food.  She loves tasty, flavorful, not-always-healthy food. Did we just become best friends?

Her obsession with the kitchen and wonderful homemade recipes makes her relatable and the cookbook fun to read.  With each recipe, original or borrowed, she shares a little story about where it came from and you can almost hear her speaking the words as you’re reading.  I loved learning more about Chrissy, her background, John and that even supermodels have cravings.

And if you’re not a reader, the photography alone is worth the purchase.

Here are some of the recipes I cannot wait to try.

John’s Breakfast Sandwich
Yes, that’s right.  John’s, not Chrissy’s.  Handmade sausage patties with cheese and eggs sunny-side up make for a delicious traditional breakfast sandwich. (pictured above) Psst, she’s married to John Legend if you’re confused who I’m referring to.

Chinese Chicken Salad with Crispy Wonton Skins
Based on Chrissy’s favorite Wolfgang Puck salad at the airport – I’m love her honesty – this vegetable packed salad recipe makes my mouth water.

Dump and Done Ramen Salad
Ok, fellow Midwesterners, you all know what this salad has to offer.  And funny enough, Chrissy discovered this recipe at a family get together in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  She fell in love with the concept and ran with it.  I simply feel obligated to try it.

Chrissy’s Mac and Cheese with Cheesy Garlic Bread Crumbs
I have a love affair with mac and cheese, so this is a must.  And those garlic bread crumbs are calling my name.

Pepper’s Scalloped Potatoes
This is her mom, Pepper’s, recipe and Chrissy says “If you make one thing in this book, make this.  I beg you.”.  I’m going to follow her instructions. Oh, and I love potatoes, so it all works out.

Crab, Cream Cheese, and Scallion Wontons
The ingredients really speak for themselves on this one. Right?

Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Brown Butter and Sage
Filed under her “things that intimidate people but shouldn’t” category, I decided to file this under my “things I will attempt at some point” section.  I love gnocchi, I love sweet potatoes.  What could go wrong?

Literally Stove Top Pork Chops
An original Chrissy recipe, this combines actual Stove Top boxed stuffing with pork chops.  Genius.  I am really excited about this one, and so is my husband.

Cravings really impressed me and I definitely recommend it, even if you’re not an avid cook!  Chrissy’s relatable honesty is so refreshing and the whole cookbook is curated perfectly, finally giving me some kitchen inspiration!
