50 questions about books.

I stumbled upon a fun post over at Young OFW called “The 50 Bookish Questions Tag” and couldn’t resist joining the fun.  After reading thru the 50 questions originally, I had answers swirling in my head within seconds.  What is it about books?  Why are they so amazing?

1. What was the last book you read?
Inferno – Dan Brown

2. Was it a good one?
“Good” does not begin to describe it.  It was fascinating, amazing.

3. What made it good?
The mystery and the facts and location Brown always includes.

4. Would you recommend it to other people?
Absolutely.

5. How often do you read?
Multiple times a week – for the most part – always trying to read more.

6. Do you like to read?
Love to read.

7.What was the last bad book you read?
It’s hard to call a book bad, but The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs wasn’t my favorite.

8. What made you dislike it?
Just a little slow for my taste.

9. Do you wish to be a writer?
It hasn’t crossed my mind..  I think it would be very difficult.

10. Has any book every influenced you greatly?
All of them, maybe.
But ones that come straight to mind are The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and The Help by Kathryn Stockett

11. Do you read fan fiction?
I never have.

12. Do you write fan fiction?
No.

13. What’s your favorite book?
Who can only choose one?  Not in any particular order:

The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs

15. Do you prefer physical books or ready on a device (like a kindle)?
Physical books – always.

16. When did you learn to read?
In school at some point I’m sure.

17. What is your favorite book you had to read in school?
Tears of a Tiger by Sharon Draper (middle school) and
The Travels of a T-Shirt by Pietra Rivoli (college)

18. What is your favorite book series?
The Hunger Games Triology by Suzanne Collins and Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

19. Who is your favorite author?
Ken Follett, Dan Brown, Sarah Dessen, J.K. Rowling (sorry, can’t choose one!)

20. What is your favorite genre?
Mystery, Historical Fiction

21. Who is your favorite character in a book series?
Robert Langdon created by Dan Brown, Elizabeth Bennet given to us by Jane Austen, or (currently) Lady Maud Fitzherbert from Fall of Giants by Ken Follett.

22. Has a book ever transported you somewhere else?
Over and over – Hogwarts, the 60s, Paris, Rome, the 1400s

23.Which book do you wish had a sequel?
The Help by Kathryn Stockett – I would love to follow Skeeter thru the 70s and I need to know how Mae Mobley is after Aibileen left.

24. Which book do you wish DIDN’T have a sequel?
I could answer with lots of movies, but I’m stumped on books.

25. How long does it take you to read a book?
It just depends.  Dan Brown can take less than a week.  Follett takes time and if I don’t like it, it sometimes lands back on the bookshelf until I want to pick it up again for another try.

26. Do you like when books become movies?
Yes and no — because I love movies, but hate when it doesn’t compare to the book.

27. Which book was ruined by its movie adaptation?
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

28. Which movie has done a book justice?
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Help by Kathryn Stockett

29. Do you read newspapers?
Once in a while.

30: Do you read magazines?
Yes.

31. Do you prefer newspapers or magazines?
Magazines.

32. Do you read while in bed?
Yes.

33. Do you read while on the toilet?
Only if I am in at a crucial point in the story.

34. Do you read while in the car?
Sometimes.

35. Do you read while in the bath?
No.

36. Are you a fast reader?
I’m not sure — maybe?

37. Are you a slow reader?
I don’t think so..?

38. Where is your favorite place to read?
On the couch or in bed.

39. Is it hard for you to concentrate while you read?
Not at all.

40.Do you need a room to be silent while you read?
No – if the story is good enough, I won’t get distracted.

41. Who gave you your love for reading?
My aunt Marg – the reason I picked up my first book, the reason I kept reading and the reason I’ll never stop.

42. What book is next on your list to read?
A Thousand Splendid Sons by Khaled Hosseini
The Defining Decade by Meg Jay
Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
Fall of Giants by Ken Follett (currently in)

43. When did you start to read chapter books?
I remember the achievement but don’t remember the age.

44. Who is your favorite children’s book author?
Who wrote the Little Golden Books?  Them.

45. Which author would you most want to interview?
Dan Brown.  I’m sure his stories of travel are endless.

46. Which author do you think you’d be friends with?
Sarah Dessen or Suzanne Collins

47.What book have you reread the most?
The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen

48. Which books do you consider “classics”?
Books that were written decades ago that they still teach in schools and are still significant to newer generations.

49. Which books do you think should be taught in every school?
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini because of it’s relevance in today’s world.

50. Which books should be banned from all schools?
Anything that does not serve the purpose of opening influential students minds to greater things in love and life.
